500hp Twin T3 Turbo
Engine
Latest RB30 Project
- Started June 07
Phils old S13 Re born..
RB25/30DETT twin low mount 16v t3's
Greddy intake q45 throttle 630 injectors
r33 head running vvt and exh veriner pulley,
latest lem g3 link ecu,
450hp goal at 12psi...
RB30 - Twin Cam Conversion
Pros
- Flow Gain - more torque at lower rpm, lower spool rpm,
liner power curve, ideal for drift applications
48% Gain on RB20 - Std Rod Ratio 1.74
19% Gain on RB25 - Std Rod Ratio 1.69
15% Gain on RB26 - Std Rod Ratio 1.65
- Better Rod Ratio Than all other RB engines at 1.84
(less rod angle)
- can easily handle around 7200rpm stock, 8000rpm + with
forged and balanced internals
- Larger Rod Journals 50mm compared to 48mm on 25 26,
spreads bearing loads better and stronger
- Larger Gugen Pin Size 1-2mm increase over others
- RB25 Head = 70% Greater Head Flow intake 45% Exhaust
compared with std 12 valve head.
Costs vary from build to build,
- basic setups will cost around $2-3000 running modified
Nissan ecus.. which are only suitable for mild applications due to AFMs
injector sizes, and tuning reliability,
- others 3-4000, better engine management, forward
intakes, new inj set, better turbos,
- wild setups 5g+ 600hp+ only economical with RB26
heads..(which can flow 650hp std.) advanced management, large fuel and turbo
upgrades a must. forged internals recommended for drift or race above 600hp,
Main Parts Required for Basic RB30de(t)
Model
Twin Cam Cylinder head (see below)
RB30e Short block - out of a R31 Skyline or VL Holden 85-88
make sure it has oil feed and retune on exhaust side of block if turbo
application
Idler, Tensioner & Cam belt (tap for tensioner relocation)
Bearings, Rings, Seals (if required) most 3L have very
little wear even on high km dirty motors.. big ends and rings usually only
issue..
Head Gasket - STD head gaskets are fine for street or mild
engines
Oil & Water pump, any twin cam pump or turbo vl pumps can
be safely used, from 20de to 26dett.
Turbo Manifold & Turbo VG30DET/rb25det is smallest I would use,
.68 exh for mild & response or twin .48s are cheap option for higher power with
good response.
Fuel system.. ca18 380s or 25t ones minimum.. any think
else is just being silly.. most 3ls are half asses jobs in this area.. good
estimate is cc size = hp flow on a 6cyl
Twin Cam Heads which can be used
- RB20DET - 78mm Bore vs 86mm Can not be used, incificent
flow, 12valve head nearly as good,
- R32 RB25DE - Simplest head to use, ready to bolt on,
use rb20det turbo manifold, runs top feed injectors, but has smaller ports
than r33, and have no cheap bolt on intake options..
- R33 RB25de/det - Bolt on bar VVTiming modifications
required - either block & disable or run external feed, requires side feed
injectors, have cheap bolt on front intake options, flow 5-600hp stock,
hydraulic lifters weakest link.. as will bleed up at high loads.
- RB26 - The Ultimate Cylinder head, but uses solid lifters, 6x throttle and a front intake plenum
system, a must if aiming above 600hp on a budget.. overrated if running under
500hp.
basily use vvt r33 heads if under 550hp or gtr above
this..
